Metalcraft are always keen to speak to skilled fabricators, welders, manual and CNC machinists who are experienced in high integrity medium to heavy engineering.  We are also keen to hear from experienced Programme ManagersProject Engineers, particularly with a back ground in highly regulated sectors such as Nuclear, Medical, Oil & Gas, Power and Big Science.

Fabricator / Welder / Assembly (Short Term Contract 6-8 weeks)

38 hours per week – Mon to Thurs 7.30am to 4.30pm, Fri 7.30am to 12.30pm

Location – Chatteris        Salary – £10 – £12 ph depending on skills & experience

About the Role

We are looking to recruit 2-3 skilled Fabricator / Welders  / Assemblers at our site in Chatteris.  Working on an urgent contract for 6-8 weeks, you will be fabricating and welding carbon steel components to the customers’ requirements within specified tolerances, weld acceptance criteria and component finish.  You will be joining an existing manufacturing team to work on a historically proven product. This role will be short term due to the increase in customer demand.

Education Requirements

Apprentice trained, would be preferable.

Fabricator / Welder

38 hours per week – Mon to Thurs 7.30am to 4.30pm, Fri 7.30am to 12.30pm

About the Role

We are looking to recruit highly skilled Fabricator / Welders at our site in Chatteris.  Working within the Proactive Solutions team, you will be fabricating and welding stainless steel components to the customers requirements within specified tolerances, weld acceptance criteria and component finish.  Your responsibility would be to build an assembly ensuring it meets the strict quality standards, from interpretation of the drawing, to preparation, and build, using stainless steel sheet metal ranging from 3mm to 10mm thickness.

Work experience requirements

You will have the ability to interpret drawings, and assess the optimal method of manufacture using preparation, fabrication, welding and fitting skills.  Previous experience with stainless steel and 3-10mm thickness essential.  Must have both fabrication and welding skillsets, including cutting, marking up, squaring off, bending etc.

Education Requirements

Apprentice trained.  Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing (training will be provided).

CNC Vertical/Horizontal Machinist

£36,300 per annum, 25 days holidays, sick pay, pension

42-46 hours rotating day/night shift Mon to Fri & Mon to Thurs

Requirements:

  • Be able to read and understand Engineering drawings
  • Must be able to operate and set CNC machines
  • Use measuring equipment
  • Be able to operate overhead cranes
  • Have an understanding of geometrical tolerancing
  • Fanuc experience
  • Experience of machining 316 / Duplex Stainless steel

Stainless Metalcraft have manufactured medium to large high integrity, mission critical products for a broad range of high technology business sectors for more than 150 years.  Based in the heart of Cambridgeshire we are developing a World Class manufacturing facility for high integrity Nuclear Waste Containers.  We have already installed large advanced CNC machining and robotic welding equipment to enable the current contracts to be fulfilled during the next 10 years.

As a CNC Machinist you will join a team of highly skilled and motivated associates in the early stages of production for high integrity Nuclear Waste Containers within our new word class facility. We are looking for candidates that can bring a positive impact on the development of production processes through continuous improvement/lean manufacturing activities throughout the life of the product, and a proactive approach when it comes to supporting your colleagues to ensure the team meets their objectives.

Like us, you’ll be passionate about quality and process improvement. You will hold a relevant indentured or modern apprenticeship with several years’ experience in CNC machining operations. You will be able to set and operate horizontal and vertical CNC machines preferably with Fanuc control experience, possess an understanding of machining processes, tooling and materials. Knowledge of VSM and lean manufacturing would be a distinct advantage.  In your role, you may be required to carry out other processes within the facility in order to complete the project as necessary and work with your peers to ensure that each operation is finished on time and right first time.  You should be able to proactively resolve issues, identify improvement initiatives, maintain 5S, continually improve process efficiency, maintain visual information, and be able to help create and maintain a World Class Facility.

Mig/Mag, Tig Welder / Robot Welding Operator

£36,300 per annum, 25 days holidays, sick pay, pension

42-46 hours rotating day/night shift Mon to Fri & Mon to Thurs

Requirements:

  • Be able to read and understand Engineering drawings
  • Mig/Mag, Tig experience in stainless steel
  • Ability to work as part of a team to achieve quality standards and meet production deadlines
  • Be able to operate overhead cranes and workshop equipment

Your main skill will be the assembly, fabrication and welding of Stainless steel parts and sub-assemblies.  In your role, you may be required to carry out other processes within the facility in order to complete the project as necessary and work with your peers to ensure that each operation is finished on time and right first time. You should be able to proactively resolve issues, identify improvement initiatives, maintain 5S, continually improve process efficiency, maintain visual information, and be able to help create and maintain a World Class Facility.

Apprenticeships

Metalcraft is home to the Fenland Engineering Skills Centre (FESC) which we use to train our engineers via an apprenticeship programme.  From 2015 onwards we expect to be significantly increasing the number of apprentices which we recruit on an annual basis.
